Sadie passed me the musical baton...

Read Sadie's post to get a clearer picture of what's going on here -- but I've been tagged and here's my answers to these questions:

The last CD I bought was:
I don't really buy real CDs anymore. I just use the iTunes music store and *cough* other means... but the last digital CD I purchased was Eisley: Room Noises on which I now have a musical crush.

Song Playing Right Now:
Neverender by Coheed and Cambria. These guys are the Smashing Pumpkins of today. The lead singer's voice takes a little getting used to but you learn to love it.

Five songs I listen to a lot or that mean a lot to me (in no particular order):
  • The Church by Derek Webb
A beautiful song that never fails to put a lump in my throat and convict me at the same time.

  • Here Comes The Flood by Peter Gabriel
There's so many songs that I could list by Peter Gabriel as meaning a lot to me. When I was 9 and 10 years old I used to listen to Shaking The Tree while I fell asleep. Eventually Here Comes the Flood would come on the stereo and it just dug into my young imagination and painted lonely, beautiful pictures.

  • Leigh and Me by Starflyer 59 with Leigh Nash
Aaron Ross with his amazingly cool music collection turned me on to this rare gem. This song reminds me of working on a girl's car that you have a crush on. It's summer. You're standing fiddling with the radiator, smelling the hot engine, saying stuff like "yeah, your oil's a little low," and all the time you really can't focus because she's standing right there!. I know I'm a weirdo. Just listen to the song and you might get it.

  • Bullets With Butterfly Wings
I remember when I first heard this song, at the tender age of 12, it was like a revelation. A rock and roll revelation! Thus began years of rabid fandom.

  • The Treasure In You by The 77's.
I'll always think of Suzanne whenever I hear this song.

By the way, with all this musical taste sharing going on, wouldn't it be cool if there was an online service that made it easier?

I pass this musical baton to Suzanne, Rebecca, Rosalyn and my Mom (and anyone else who wants it). Please post your lists in the comments section. We're counting on you.

Lucky Ole Son by Ray Charles
Just about anything by my boy is heaven. Didn't he give everything to a song?

Be Thou My Vision, Tupelo Honey... and many more by Van the Man
Your sisters have such a crush on his voice they refuse to look at pictures of him. Not that he's unsightly, but his voice is everything a man's voice should be and his face just doesn't go.

Score from Les Miserables
All of it's so beautiful, so philisophical, so heart-rending, patriotic.

Time to Say Goodbye by Andrea Bocelli and Sarah Brightman
With the little military drum slowly coming in at the cresendo, and their voices going operaetic and wild, you can see armies marching away, ships sailing, people dying in eachothers arms

Born to Run by Bruce Sprinstein
Makes me want to buy dad a hog and get on the back

One by U2

Kiss Your Feet by delirious
When I get to heaven, there's so much I want to do, so many people I want to meet. But, I think the first thing I'll do is grab on to His feet like little Mary in the garden, and hang on for a long time.

Thanks for asking, you dear son. This is like your movie blog, though, I could name thousands, no like infinity (use Napoleon vc.) more.

I have a question for you Levi.
We basically listen to music in 3 rooms - in the living room, the computer room, and our bedroom. Zombieslayer Jr. listens to it in the living room or computer room.
Problem is the living room is powered by a DVD player, which only plays CDs and MP3s. Does iTunes sell their music in MP3 format or another format? I'd rather support Apple than someone in league with the Evil Empire, but
they'd be useless if they weren't in MP3 format.

Zombieslayer:

Apple's music does not come in mp3 format, it comes in AAC or mp4. However, there are a bunch of free programs out there that convert the files to mp3s -- but why go with that hassle if you don't need to?

Hope that helps.

Treasure in you by the 77's has to be my favorite song of all time. Not only was it our first dance at our wedding but it was playing in the back ground pretty much the whole time we were getting to know each-other.
I'm kissing you from the Romeo and Juliet soundtrack is right up there for me. I get chills every time I here it. It makes me feel like I'm walking down the isle again.
Good love by Cindi lopper. I love a lot of her songs but this one is great because it reminds me of the Goonies.
Here comes the flood by peter Gabriel puts me in a place I can't describe. It's like being inside of something really beautiful. Does that make since? Like I said, hard to describe.
God is in the room by Levi Nunnink. Yeah you. Who wouldn't love a song written for them about them? That song will always be a favorite. Isn't my husband so romantic?
There is my five but there are so many more. Hey babe, what's that band I love so much. You know, you bought me the CD for christmas but for some reason it has been in your car forever.

This has been such a great day for blog-conversation. I feel like there's a little party on each blog.
Levi--good luck with audiozoo. I'm so curious as to what that is and I know it's going to be exciting and great. I'm a little paranoid that with the launch of audiozoo, culturezoo will take to the back burner. *pouting*
Suzanne--we have such similar taste in music; it's creepy. I love that Cindy Lauper song and everytime I watch that movie, I'm always sad when it starts to fade away. I'm Kissing You will always remind me of you and Levi. It brought tears to my eyes. What a beautiful song! Your wedding goes down in my book as the most fun I had dancing with family. Second would be Jen's wedding because Levi and I were bustin' moves.
Michele-- I'm the same way about our friend Van. His voice is so meltish but his face doesn't go with it...poor ruddy, little irishman. I have tons of favorite Van songs but one of them is Sweet Thing--I could close my eyes and instantly be transported to some dream-like vacation with Dan.

Darling Wife: Are you thinking of Dashboard Confessional? *ahem* "Hands down this is the best day I can ever rememberrrrrr...."

Sadie: Don't worry about audiozue taking time away from culturezoo. It's pretty much finished. I'm just waiting to get the hosting kinks worked out.

That's the one! Hey babe, think I could get that back? That would have been nice house cleaning music today.

Stupid by Sarah McLachlan
This is my favorite of hers. Good song . Good lyrics.

Broken angle by Zach Hanson
I know I've lost every shred of respect I once might have had with this one but this is a great song.

By the way you guys better not laugh at my taste in music

Mmmmmm.....I love music. Rozzy-you and me definetly have similar taste in music. Whenever I hear a new song I like I always tell you because I know you'll like it too.

1."Majesty" by Delirious?
This song wins the award for best christian lyrics, "Your grace has found me just as I am, empty handed but alive in your hands."
It is a song that really just makes me in awe of God's majesty everytime I hear it.
2."Sometimes you can't make it on your own" U2
Another song with great lyrics and a good message.
3."The Scientist" Coldplay
This song always makes me sad, but I like it. It makes me think of having to say goodbye to someone you love and how sad it can be. I hate goodbyes!
4."Letters to Elise" The Cure
This song reminds me of back rubs with Suzanne. I love this guy's voice, he always sounds so emotional in all his songs. I like that.
6."Vindicated" Dashboard Confessionals
This song reminds me of fighting with God. You know when you'll be arguing with God, and you go back and forth trying to find a way to justify yourself and your opinion. You know your wrong but it just feels like there are two sides duking it out. I don't even think that is what this song is about but thats just what it makes me think of.
-Claire

p.s.Gotta agree with you mom on the "Les Mis" soundtrack, so many great songs.

I'm a little confused... what is a buttlet? Is that like a small bottom? Small bottoms with butterfly wings? Cherubs?

Okay, wait a minute... I just accessed the song... that's the one Denise and I listened to every night, during the last two years we lived in Maine, blasting across the hall from Sam's room... Did I ever tell the story about driving over to Sarasota Springs to take Sam to see Billy Corgan (SP) at Lollaplooza? I was one band away from going in with him... If Living Colour, Primus or Rage Against the Machine would have been on the bill, I was in... instead, Denise and I wandered around town.

The last CD I bought was:
A special I found at Walmart on the Best of Italy (American songs sung in Italian - I thought it would help me while I am taking my class next semester. Also so that I will understand the love ballads sung to me while I am in Italy)

Song Playing Right Now:
Days Go By ~ Keith Urban (I'm sorry but I have a huge crush on this country boy!)

Five songs I listen to a lot or that mean a lot to me (in no particular order):

The Happy Song ~Delirious (As those of you know that read Sadie's blog this song makes me sooo happy :)

This Is Your Song ~ Ewan McGregor on the Moulin Rouge soundtrack (another boy that is lucky enough to have my affections)

Fallen For You ~ LaRue (I dream that my voice and hair can be as beautiful as hers)

I Need A Hero ~ Bonnie Tyler

ANYTHING by Carol King, Van Morrison, Jim Croce ~ There are toooo many favorites to name from these artists. I love the way I feel when I listen to them!

Thanks for including me in your blog Levi. I feel like every year that goes by we have bonded just a little bit more. You're like the brother I never had *tear*. Okay, that is all the mush ya gonna get from me!

I can't help it, I have to post again. I feel as though I have betrayed some of my best friends. But I just can't pick a song, I have to just tell you who they are. Don't you have a singer or a CD that you can't go wrong by just playing the whole thing? That's what my list is here.

James Taylor-I melt when I hear his sweet voice. I use to sit and listen to him every day after school. "You can close your eyes" "Sweet baby James" Fire and Rain" "Country Road" "Something in the way she moves" "Carolina in my mind". I could go on and on. One night Levi came home and said he had a surprise for me. When he got home we hopped in the car and started driving. He said he got free tickets to a James Taylor concert. I can't even explain how excited I was. When he came out on the stage I started crying a little. I don't know why, I just couldn't hold in all my emotions. That was a great night.
John Denver-Do not laugh. I had a friend who did and I made him sit down and listen to him and now he is a closet fan. And no death jokes. For some reason they make me really sad. "Rocky mountain high" "Annie's Song" "Country boy" "Leaving on a jet plane" "Take me home country roads".
This is turning into a long post so I am not going to write anymore songs.
Van Morrison- Just like James, his voice melts my heart.
Jackson Brown- He could sing anything and I would love it. Can I get some Amens out there!
The Footlose soundtrack-Just put it on and let it play. You won't be sorry. Unless your not in the mood for really good 80's music.
Cindi lopper-like I said before she rocks. But watch out, if you play her too long you'll probably start to get annoyed.
Heart-name me a better girl band from the 80's. You can't, can you?
Dixie Chicks-I'm sorry. I know they are annoying airhead traitors, but they rock the country scene.
And last but not least, Dashboard Confessionals- Who after I write this post I am going to go steal it back out of Levi's car.
Does anyone else have a CD that they love to just put in and play? Let me know, I'm always looking for more

Suzanne--I LOVE James Taylor. Whenever I'm in the mood for mellow, easy, sweet songs...I pick his cds or Paul Simon's. And you're right, there is no better chick band from the 80s than Heart. They rock.
Roz--I really enjoyed the whole soundtrack from Spirited Away; I was surprised you chose it as one of your five, I wouldn't have even thought of it but now that you mention it-good choice!

Darling, I can't believe you'd even mention the Dixie Chicks on this blog. I thought you loved this country.

Bo: Buttlets with Butterfly Wings is a great song! ...I'm so embarrassed. It's fixed now.

I do love this country, but man they rock. I'm torn and I'm not strong enough to leave them. Hey there was one more person I forgot. Leaving this person out of favorite singers is like leaving your parents out when you talk about your family. Jim Croce will always be at the top of my list of favorites. "You don't mess around with Jim" "Time in a bottle" "I got a name" "I'll have to say I love you in a song" and many many more. I knew I was forgetting someone important when I was making out my list. There now I am done.

K, had to comment on this because I love music...Whoever put the "Footloose" soundtrack is awesome! Thought I'd narrow my list to 80's/Early 90's....

"November Rain" by Guns'N'Roses

"Dream On" by Aerosmith

"In God We Trust" by Stryper

"The Show Must Go On" by Queen

"To be With You" by Mr. Big

Honorable Mention would be The FIRST TWO CD's of DCTalk...

Anonymous, please reveal yourself. Your music tastes are so varied and unusual, (Stryper?) I must know who you are or I shall die. Please fellow-bloggers, promise not to tease him/her, so he can step forward proudly.

Anomynous was me, David Floyd....Yes, Stryper (pronounced Stry (rymes with "try") - per) for those of you who have never heard of them, they were a Christian hair band from the 80's. Varried, Unusual...Alas, I hav, e been labled. Why would I be teased?

5:53 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Wow . Good to have you in blog land david.

Anonymous Anonymous said...

You wouldn't be teased, per se, but Stryper might be given a hard time. (See Average Joe's Blog, and how they pounced on Sadie and John Mayer) I remember them from when I was a new Christian. I've never listened to them, I trust if you do, they're very talented. I always had a hard time getting past their, ....ahem, attire.
Glad to see your name in here, David, and I know Levi will be, too.
