Billy Corgan speaks, and Arcade Fire rocks.

If anyone is a Smashing Pumpkins or Billy Corgan fan they might find this interview interesting. No matter what you think of Corgan, you must admit that he's rather eloquent for a rock star. He also seems to have converted to the faith in recent years -- in his own weird way.

I was listening to the IndiePopRocks internet radio station the other day, when a song came on that pulled me from my work and sent me in search of further music by the group. Who was that band?

The Arcade Fire

The vocalist reminds me of Modest Mouse (no kidding) but they've got a different groove. They're a bit weird but I really love their sound. Here's a few samples from their album. Let me know what you think.

Have you purchased the solo album yet? Or is it not available as of right now? I couldn't listen to those songs...:,( I'll try again later.

That's weird... Can you listen to mp3s on your computer? That's all those links point to. It might take a bit to download, you might have to wait a bit.

If you really want to hear them you could do a "Right-Click > Save Target As...", download them to you computer and open them with windows media player.

Jeeze, all that work...

i am really excited about this solo prject from billy corgan. i have been hearing about forever, so it's cool that it finally has a not-too-distant release date. i have always enjoyed his frank, somewhat harsh outlook on things, so this interview was a good read.

have you happened to check out his poery book? if so, is it good? i would like to check it out...

I'm eagerly awaiting BC's new release too.

I never checked out his poetry book. Maybe next time I'm in Borders I'll give it a few turns.

Is the quote about being "pushed off a cliff by God" what makes you think he's "converted to the faith"? I think that's pretty vague. I know you love the guy, Levi, but you don't want to jump to conclusions. ~Mom

Hey Levi, I read his blog, there are like a dozen entries and he seems like the stereotype of an aging rocker who still drones on about how much his life stinks for the most part. He has glimmers of selflessness in his writings, but mostly...he seems jaded. He's a genious (sp) though...

sadie, i know you noted that you're spelling of "genious" may be incorrect, and i know it is annoying correct someone's spelling errors in general, but i feel that words like "genius" (correct spelling) should only be used if they can be spelled.

then again, i think the above is a ridiculous run-on sentance, so who am i? just someone who pretends to be samrt.

Walker,
dear young boy, notice I put this in my sentance after the misspelling of "genius" (sp) that means I foreknew the word was spelled correctly but that I was too lazt to look it up just for the sake of having an error-free comment. Thanks for pointing it to my attention. In the furture, I'll walk around with a dictionary glued to my bottom like you.

Yeah, Corgan can drone on and on but there's actually some good stuff for hardcore fans. He gives a lot of inside dirt that was previously unknown.

Nonetheless, he is really self-absorbed.

BTW: I just heard 2 tracks from his new album. I'm loving it. Very Adore-ish.

I sort of liked the tunes... they've got a throwback '80s sound that I'm trying to figure out. Power Out was sort of Depeche Mode meets Sparks... Rebellion (Lies) has a total early U2 influence to it... Wake Up I have no real clue on. I guess I dug the first two best. Thanks for the turn on to the group...

P.S. -- Sadie, it's a sign of genious to do things differently... Life's too short to worry about spellin' an' stuff...

Thanks Shawn. I'll take your words of encouragement to heart and not be so anal about spelling and typos. ( BTW-There is a difference between not knowing how to spell *benefit and a typo like *benfit)
